I’ve been doing a lot of pixel art work lately for a “secret project” that I’ve really been enjoying. I’ve been gaming since the early 90s and I remember going over to friends’ and families houses SPECIFICALLY to play the latest Nintendo or Sega games. It’s been a lot of fun going back to my gaming roots – this time as a developer instead of a gamer. For my blog this week I wanted to go old school and make a Gameboy version of yours truly.

First I start off by opening Aseprite (a great tool for pixel art and animation) loading the gameboy palette and laying down a silhouette.

After some adjustments, I add some midtone for some detail.

I added the highlights – but I’m not 100% happy with this portrait just yet.

There we go. I think this actually kinda looks like me now.

Now to breath a little life into this guy.

Not bad! It’s still missing something though….

Yea! That’s what I’m talking about!

Aww! It crashed. Oh well! At least I can play the new game BonusXP is working on.
