New Icons!

By Andrea Werntz

This is my first blog post as part of the BonusXP team. That’s right, I’m officially part of this awesome little company and with that, comes all of the responsibilities of being a concept artist, yes a Concept Artist. Creating amazing and inspiring environments, super badass character designs, the coolest buildings, props, weapons, UI design, costumes, and icons such incredible icons. Wait, what?! What are icons… nobody told me about them. Icons are this weird mix between a prop and a button. Not quite a button but not quite a prop either, and there are […]

The Incorruptibles – Now on Android

We’re very happy to announce that The Incorruptibles, the latest game from BonusXP and our partner MaxPlay, is now available for Android devices via Google Play. The game launched last month on the App Store, and certainly one of the frequently asked questions was, “When will it be available for Android?”

The Incorruptibles is a real-time strategy game for iOS devices. The game gives you real time control of your heroes in fast paced battles, more like our classic RTS games. You can fight against the evil Corrupted in single player or other players from around the […]

2015 BonusXP Christmas Party

By Marc Hanson

Legend has it, the BonusXP Company Christmas Party of 2014, held at Whiskey Cake, was totally amaze-balls. Having joined the company later on, I only got to experience the greatness with the stories told by the old timers who survived the gluttonous celebration.

Lucky for me, after nearly a year of hearing how awesome the food was, I got to experience it for myself at the BonusXP Company Christmas Party of 2015, held at Whiskey Cake 2: Electric Boogaloo.

We rented out a private party room where waitresses brought delicious risotto balls and other appetizers, as well […]

MaxPlay’s Developer Spotlight

Bruce Shelley put together a blog post on The Incorruptibles for MaxPlay’s Developer Spotlight in which he talks about our vision for the game. Here’s an excerpt, check out the full post here on MaxPlay.io.

“We see plenty of mobile strategy games available, but they aren’t RTS. In our experience, the mobile device itself is having more fun than the player, who spends much of the game just watching, not making decisions and personally driving the action. We set out to offer an alternative where the player has the skills and makes the interesting decisions, not […]

Launching Games

By Dave Pottinger

Some of us have been in the industry for quite a while, all the way back to the days of Age of Empires 1 and, in some cases, even back to the early days of Civilization and Railroad Tycoon. While that means we’re officially ‘old’, it also means that we’ve launched a lot of different games.

Of course, each of those games has been different.

  • Team size and scope are all over the place. In 1996, we launched Age of Empires 1 with about 25 people at Ensemble Studios (not counting the larger supporting teams inside Microsoft that […]

Building a Game From Scratch

By Bruce Shelley

We are often asked how developers actually begin making a game. The method that we have seen work most successfully, beginning many years ago with board and paper games, is to build a prototype, start pushing around the pieces, and then rely on our instincts as gamers to feel what parts are working, not working, what new idea to try, etc. We call this design by playing.

That first prototype is usually very crude and simple, and somewhat based on a mash-up of existing ideas (from successful games we might borrow from) and new ideas (things […]

Diary of a Nerdy Cat

(or the obligatory cat post)

By Marc Porto

I forgot that I had to write the team blog post this week, so like all good producers I delegated and stole my cat’s journal. I found him in an ice storm a couple years back.

Day 1:
Pretty girl walked by the car where I was taking shelter from the ice storm.
I loved on her, I knew she’d be a sucker.
She left me with this weird dude with a beard.

Day 2:
Its warm here, and there’s always food.
Could be worse I suppose.

Day 3:
Dude spends all his time here staring at this glowing thing […]

Servo Beta 4 Economy Changes

Welcome to Beta 4! The full change log for this update can be viewed here on Servogame.com. It’s not quite as long a list as the previous update, which was a monster, but it’s still a pretty big wall of text. Certainly one of the major highlights, besides the new and beautiful version of the Creep Rock City and Degrees of Ire maps, is the addition of Supply Drones.

What do Supply Drones do? They act like Villagers or Peons to some degree and they speed up the gathering of Bloom. You train them out of your […]
